The Red Rooster All Australian Jamboree was the dream of Sandra Smith on a drive home from a Country Music Festival where very fewAustralian composed songs had been sung. The Jamboree has a great family friendly atmosphere in the old Barn over three days and nights at the Charters Towers Showgrounds, coodinated by the Gold City Country Music Club.

Gold City Country Music Club Campout at Bivouac Junction in October, 2010

On Friday, 8th October, some of our members went down to Bivouac Junction for our annual campout.  We had a lovely evening sitting around enjoying each others company after a delicious BBQ tea cooked by Owen.  When we got up on Saturday morning, Owen cooked us a delicious breakfast of bacon, eggs, tomatoes and toast with a choice of tea, coffee or juice.  Other members arrived during the morning and the music gear was set up.  Club members sang until about 10-30 p.m. stopping only for meals.  People who were staying in the park wandered over with their chairs and drinks and sat and enjoyed the great music.  We had delicious corned meat (Owen cooked it in the camp oven) and salad for lunch and for tea Owen again cooked up a scrumptious BBQ.  On Sunday we all sat around after a delicious breakfast and chicken, corned meat and salad lunch.  We packed up and left after lunch.  It was a lovely weekend enjoyed by all.  Good company, good venue, good food and good music.  Wonderful!

20th RED ROOSTER ALL AUSTRALIAN JAMBOREE

Next year will be the 20th year for the All Austalian Jamboree and it will be held on 22nd, 23rd & 24th April 2011 so there will be celebrations and extra prizes over the weekend. Another thing to take note of is the fact that this is Easter weekend so plan to start the weekend on Good Friday with the Gospel Sections followed by Judges Gospel Concert. We also plan to bring back some of the extraordinary things or acts that have happened during that 20 years.

So don't forget and start planning to come to the Charters Towers All Australian Jamboree on the 22nd, 23rd & 24th April 2011 and stay for the "Ten Days in the Towers". Lots of fun. Lots to do.

ROUND UP OF 2010 RED ROOSTER ALL AUSTRALIAN JAMBOREE

The 2010 Red Rooster All Australian Jamboree was held in the country atmosphere of the Barn, Charters Towers Showgrounds decorated with branches of gum trees so the smell of the Bush permeated the hall. We enjoyed lovely sunny weather so an enjoyable weekend was had.

Gold City Country Music Club Inc. was very pleased to welcome new Major Sponors in Rhonda & Gary Richards from Charters Towers Red Rooster. It is wonderful to have such supported sponsors come on board. Thank you Gary & Rhonda. Your sponsorship will make a difference to the All Australian Festival and will help it grow into the future.

Once again, BHP Billiton Cannington Mine sponsored our Junior Competition. They interest in the development and future of the junior artists coming along is a wonderful thing. We thank them for their support ,as do all the junior singers do too.

Charters Towers Country Music Inc. , once again, sponsored the Major Prizemoney and very generously allow us to use the Barn, their music gear, the table and chairs all at no cost. Our Grand Overall Winner, Kahlita Moods, received a spot on Friday Night of their Festival, Charters Towers Country Music Festival, to strut their stuff. Without this support, our task of running the Red Rooster All Australian Jamboree would be much harder. Thank you to this Committee for your support.

Lots of fun and laughter was had by all and we look forward to next year to do it all over again but with a big difference because 2011 will be the 20th All Australian Jamboree so there will be lots of celebration and prizes on offer.

History of the All Australian Jamboree

The All Australian Jamboree was dreamed up in 1991 on the drive home from a Festival where very little Australian composed country music was sung. The first festival was held at the JK Dixon Memorial Rodeo Grounds(now known as the Dalrymple Equestrian Centre) in 1992. We were so excited about having Evelyn Bury as our main artist and supported by Noel Dobel. Evelyn Bury, at that time was a Gold Guitar winning artist who had been named in the top 10 Female Country Artists of the year for many years. Noel Dobel sang like Slim Whitman. It rained on that Saturday cabaret night and they stayed on to entertain the crowd on Sunday night.

The All Australian Jamboree was moved to the RSL for a few years and the Charters Towers Racecourse. Finally a decision was made to move it to a week before the Charters Towers Country Music Festival and hold it at the Barn at Charters Towers Showgrounds in 1998 and it has been there ever since.

We set out then to fill the intervening week with Tamworth like activities. This ten day period was called “Towers Bonza Bash” in the beginning but has had a name change since to “Ten Days in the Towers”.
In 2001, for our 10th All Australian Jamboree, we asked Evelyn Bury to return to help us celebrate. Sadly, Noel Dobel had lost his battle with cancer and couldn’t be with us. Evelyn did a great job of entertaining and was enjoyed by everyone.

In 2005, the Junior Sections all became the BHP Billiton Cannington Mine Junior Competition when they became a major sponsor and they have remained a big part of our festival.

For our 19th Annual Festival we were lucky to find another major sponsor, Charters Towers Red Rooster, and with their help, the Festival will continue to thrive and grow. Gold City Country Music Club Members are adamant that it will continue to do so.

ROBBIE GOUGH

Robbie Gough is the Patron of the All Australian Jamboree. He was also instrumental along with Bob Katter in getting the Charters Towers Country Music Festival started. Every year these two men while riding horses and carrying the Banner lead the Street Parade for the start of the Charters Towers Country Music Festival

09 April 2010

Welcome...

The Charter's Towers Red Rooster All Australian Jamboree is an unique country music festival. It is the only Talent Quest I know of where only Australian Composed country music can be sung. It caters to all types of Australian country music from Gospel to Country Rock including Trucking, Traditional and Original Composition. There is even a Pee Wee section for the under 8 year olds which is very popular.

It starts on Friday night the 23rd April at 6.30pm with the “Brian Uren Memorial” Performance Original Composition and entry to this Competition is free. Competition runs all day Saturday, and on Sunday we have a late start with it being Anzac Day. On Saturday Evening the Overall Pee Wee/Juvenile, Junior & Senior Winners from 2009 get to strut their stuff and entertain the audience before competition continues with the Country Rock Sections.

Hard to believe, I know, but this is all Aussie Material. This is our 19th Annual Festival and the members of Gold City Country Music Club Inc. who run this weekend are avid believers in supporting and promoting our own home grown songwriting and singing artists. This is our contribution to the Australian Country Music Industries.

Remember 23rd, 24th and 25th April 2010 and join us for some good home style entertainment.

Sandra Smith

Festival Co-coordinator
